Vintage Cabart Paris Ring System Oboe with Low Bb for Restoration..
Up for sale is this great vintage Cabart Paris oboe.
I had plans to restore this, but have turned my attentions to a different project instead. I have too much stuff - my loss is your gain.
The oboe will require a full overhaul to be playable. This means pads, bumpers, springs, mechanical reconditioning, attention to wood, cleaning, and full adjustment.
The mechanism is in overall good, solid condition. No solder repairs or breakage. Original heavy silver plate is tarnished, but remains about 75% intact with most wear at touch points. The oboe has low Bb, and alternate side Bb.
The wood body is in overall solid condition with no past crack repairs. The top joint is in excellent condition with no cracks. Bore looks excellent. There are two small cracks in the common areas of the bell and lower joint - The lower joint has a small hairline over the tenon (shown in pic), which should make an easy repair. The bell has the usual hairline running over the tenon to the Bb tonehole. This should also be an easy repair. The tenon cover on the bottom joint will need to be refitted.
Some preliminary cleaning and mechanical work has already been done to the instrument to assess its condition.
The oboe will come in a leather covered French case with red velvet interior. The case is used and shows wear, but is clean and functional.
This instrument in in overall solid condition, and is very worthy of repair and will make an excellent addition to someone’s collection. Also great for a player looking for a simpler, easy to adjust mechanism.
