Up for sale is this awesome, hard to find B series Loree. I rescued this on a whim. Like all my other projects I had big plans overhauling it, but it’s just sitting in my office and needs a new home. Please help me downsize!
The oboe will need a full overhaul to be playable a high level. This includes attention to old crack repairs, pads, adjustment/mechanical overhaul, and voicing. That said, I can currently play the oboe from low C# all the way up - what a beautiful sound! Sweet, even, low key scale. All of the notes are round, dark, and delicate, but with projection. This has such an awesome sound…I really don’t want to let this go… I just have too much stuff and realistically this won’t get played :(
Top Joint: the top joint has the most trauma. In total I see 10 pins that are holding 2-3 cracks. I tried to show these in the photos. The largest crack is from the trills to the left of the 1st octave vent, about 1 1/4”. It looks like there is a small crack between the trills. I’m not sure if there are other cracks or if the pins were placed for stability. The crack repairs look to be very stable and very, very well-done. They are quite old - likely decades old. A modern tech could likely give them a cleanup and hide them. The cracks did not go through to the bore - the bore is nice and even, and smooth.
Bottom Joint: The bottom joint has no cracks or crack repairs. The wood looks excellent. Nothing really to report. Bore is excellent.
Bell: The bell looks good. No cracks or crack repairs that I can see. There is a deep line of grain that looks suspicious, running from the tenon down. It is not currently a crack and I have it well-oiled. But I showed it in pics, just in case. There are a couple scratches on the bell that I tried to show in the photos. These aren’t deep and could be buffed out by a good tech.
Mechanism: The instrument doesn’t have major wear. It seems to have been lightly used and well-cared for. The mechanism is nice and tight, light, and only shows minimal signs of normal wear. Definitely a low amount of use for its age. Likely sat for a very long time, unplayed. The silver plating is 95%+ and very clean. It lacks left F, but it could be easily added by a good tech. The bell does have low Bb resonance.
The oboe will come in a used gig style, zip up case in decent condition. It is black nylon with a pocket and has straps ti keep the oboe secure. It’s decent and works well.
Again, I’m very sad to let this one go. It sounds amazing and I would have loved to have it overhauled. What a great, sweet sound. The high D is just perfect - whisper easy. But… my loss is your gain. Great chance to have a very hard to find B series and have it overhauled to your specs. I hope this one finds a great home
